Through the last 40+ years, I have changed many parts of
the Joss Cue and feel they have all made a better playing and longer-lasting cue.
I have conducted several “on-the-road” tests with new Gorget© ferrules and different installation methods.
When Joss Cues started in 1968, all ferrules were one-half to seven-eighths of an inch long.
I have concluded that the old approach may have been more effective.
All new Joss Cues will have the old original three-quarters of an inch capped ferrule.
This Gorget ferrule is threaded and glued onto a shorter wood tenon.
This type of ferrule has a better hit and feel.
The shorter tenon has less chance to hinge over and inadvertently spin the ball.
At the same time, it is solid and will result in a longer-lasting cue.
The Joss shaft has a traditional brass insert.

Joss Traditional Shaft Black Ring
The Joss Traditional Shaft Black Ring brings together the traditional construction of a Joss shaft with improvements developed through decades of cue making and testing.
Over the last 40-plus years, I have changed many parts of the Joss Cue.
I believe these changes have resulted in better-playing, more consistent, and longer-lasting cues.
A Return to the Traditional Joss Ferrule
When Joss Cues began in 1968, our ferrules were generally between one-half and seven-eighths of an inch long.
Over the years, ferrule designs and installation methods have changed as I continued to look for ways to improve performance and durability.
After conducting several “on-the-road” tests with new Gorget© ferrules and different installation methods, I decided that the older approach may have been the better one.
For that reason, the Joss Traditional Shaft Black Ring features our original-style 3/4-inch capped Gorget ferrule.
The ferrule is threaded and glued onto a shorter wood tenon, creating a strong and secure connection.
Traditional Feel and Improved Performance
I believe this construction provides a better hit and feel while also improving durability.
The shorter wood tenon has less opportunity to flex or hinge during the stroke.
As a result, it can help reduce unintended action on the cue ball while providing the solid response associated with a traditional Joss shaft.
The capped ferrule design also maintains the classic appearance and playing characteristics that Joss players have known for generations.
Traditional 5/16 x 14 Brass Insert
The shaft uses the traditional 5/16 x 14 brass insert, a joint configuration long associated with Joss Cues.
The brass insert provides a secure connection and contributes to the solid, familiar feel of a traditional Joss cue.
A 10-inch professional taper provides a comfortable stroke, while the medium Triangle tip offers dependable performance and control.
